Fernando de Noronha is a Brazilian archipelago of 21 islands and islets, in the Atlantic Ocean, offshore from the Pernambuco state, east of Rio Grande do Norte state.
The main island has an area of 17 km². Its natural exuberance fascinates and attracts people from all over the world. In 1988, most of the archipelago was declared a maritime National Park, with the goal of preserving its endemic species and the resident spinner dolphins that congregate daily in the Golfinhos Bay, the best place in the world to observe this species.
